Ferguson, Signe - Bronze Medal, Youth 10 Women's Foil

The Super Youth Circuit has been designed by the USFA for the Y10, Y12 and Y14 age groups. These events, which are the next step up from the Regional Youth Circuit, are National competitions and qualify for National points in these age groups.
There were 2 members of Alliance Fencing Academy competing in this Super Youth event: Signe Ferguson (10) and Jack Hudson (13)

Youth 14 Men's Epee

34 competitors

In Y14 Men's Epee Jack fenced well in the pools to qualify tying for 4th place going into Direct Elimination round (DEs). This position gave him a bye in the 1st round followed by 2 tough DE bouts with strong 14 year old fencers. Jack listened well to Andrey's advise during the breaks and remained very patient to end these rounds in convincing form. Into the semi final - Jack was now against Andrew Meyers a 14 year old from New York. It was always very close, finishing both of the first two 3min bouts on equal points. In the final few minutes Jack was trailing 13 to 14 and attacked to the arm narrowly missing the point by a fraction. The following touch was a double touch finishing the bought 14 to 15 to Meyers.
Meyers then went on to dominate in the final winning 15 to 6. Well done Jack!!!
Final results:

1 Meyers Andrew, West-rock
2 Tapai Andrei, Metro
3 Hudson Jack, Gulf Coast
3 Politi Luke, New England
5 Risen Daniel, Kentucky
6 Moreton Wyatt, Green Mt.
7 Cox Isaac, C. Florida
8 Jacovino Jonathan, Northeast

Youth 12 Men's Epee

24 competitors

Having finished the above event at 10pm (!) Jack returned the next morning to compete in Y12 Men's Epee. Jack even though not showing his best form after a late and exhausting evening in Y14 dominated the event and took 1st place overall.
Andrey's great coaching, again, paid off and showed that even a tired Alliance fencer can recover well and still be able to produce a great result!
Final results:

1 Hudson Jack, Gulf Coast
2 McInnis Kael, So Texas
3 Velze Joshua ,So Texas
3 Cox Isaac, C. Florida
5 Eldeib Alexander, Virginia
6 LaVia Dante, Illinois
7 Wiggins Daniel ,Capital
8 Karimi Farzaan, New England

Youth 10 Women's Foil

10 competitors

Youth 12 Women's Foil

34 competitors

Signe fenced well in pools in her Youth 10 event. She won 3 bouts and lost one. Then Signe won her DE bout in quarter finals 2:0 (2 victories out of three five-touch bouts) and lost her next semi final bout 0:2.

Next morning Signe competed in her Youth 12 event. She lost few pool bouts in the first round, which negatively affected her seeding in DEs. Now Signe had to fence a higher seeded and stronger opponent in her DE bout for the top 16. Signe tried her best but she lost this bout finishing 25th overall.

Final results:

1 Northrop Katie, New Jersey
2 Muravyeva Anastasiya, Virginia
3 Zusin Gabriella, West-rock
3 Ferguson Signe, GulfCoast
5 Zambrano Jessenia, Metro
6 Mageras Finnula, Conn.
7 Falkowski Natalia, West-rock
8 Caplan Michaela, NewEngland

Coach's comments:

This event followed on from the Alliance Fencing Winter Camp where the participants had the opportunity to learn and train alongside many of the
country's top level epeeists.
This was a fantastic experience from which all our epee fencers benefited greatly. In organizing this, Andrey has our Alliance fencers well prepared for
the National Competitions approaching.

All Alliance youth fencers (Y10, Y12 and Y14 in all 3 weapons) will all be able to train hard for the next USFA Super Youth Circuit Event, which takes place
16th to 18th March 2007 here in HOUSTON. This is a great opportunity to compete in a National event without the costs of traveling (for once!) AND a chance for you to support and watch your Alliance team-mates competing too! For more information on this event please see Andrey, Sabina or Natasha.
