Congratulations to our medalists!!!

Division II Women's Epee (57 fencers, B3 event)
Kara Collins and Gaby Rios
represented our club in this event with 15 Cs, 17 Ds, 12 Es, and 13 Us.
In pools Gaby had it hard with 0-5 but one bout she lost 4-5. Kara had
also some problems with 2-3 (one bout 4-5). Gaby lost her first DE 7-15.
Kara struggled a bit in her first DE which she won 15-14, followed by
two more victories 15-12 to get into the final 8. In her quarter final
bout she found her momentum and won decisively 15-9 followed by her
semifinal victory at 15-10. In the final bout, her first at a national
event, she lost 5-15 but earned a B-07 rating. Congratulations Kara!
Everybody should know that Kara has been fencing for just 2 years and
got into epee just in the past 6 months!

missed the cut by 3 spots. In DEs our three remaining girls had all a
bye but regretfully Francesca and Kara had to fence each other with
Francesca winning 15-4. Dina trounced her opponent 15-0. Our two
remaining girls entered the repêchage round from 32. Dina lost her first
bout in the repêchage 14-15 and the next one 12-15. Francesca won her
bouts 15-12, 15-3, and 15-6 to get in the final 8. In the quarterfinal

Division III Men's Epee (81 fencers, C3 event)
Only Robert Wooley represented ALL in this event with 1 C, 24 Ds, 28 Es, and 28 Us. In pools Robert was 3-3 (one loss 4-5). In DEs after a bye, Robert struggled for a 15-14 victory but then changed gear and won the next two DEs 15-10 and 15-4 to get in the final 8. He lost the quarterfinal bout 11-15 to the eventual winner of this competition. Great performance by Robert who earned a D-07 in this national competition. Final placement:
1 Shipp Royce J UTAH/S.IDA D2007 C07
Division II Men's Epee (71 fencers, B3)
Only Jack Hudson competed in this
event with 1 B, 30 Cs, 19 Ds, 10 Es, and 11 Us. In pools Jack was 4-2
(one bout 4-5). In DEs Jack had a bye and then won 15-13 and 12-11 but
lost 10-15 to top 8. A good performance by our young athlete who keeps
growing both physically and in his fencing. Cadet Men's Epee (127 fencers, A3 event)
Two Alliance
fencers competed in this event, Ben Freiman and Jack Hudson,
which included 9 As, 30 Bs, 32 Cs, 19 Ds, 17 Es, and 20 Us. In pools Ben
finished 1-4 with two bouts lost 4-5. Jack was 2-4 in pools and he also
lost two bouts 4-5. Ben unfortunately missed the cut by 2 spots. Bad
luck continued with Jack’s first DE where he lost 14-15. Next time they
will have just a bit more luck and do much better.
Division III Women's Foil (79 fencers, C3 events)
Robert Wooley and Kara Collins weir
our only fencer in these events. In pools Robert was 4-2. In DEs Robert
had a bye and won decisively his first bout 13-6, but lost the next one
7-15 getting few red cards for non working fencing equipment. Robert
took 45th place.
Coaches Notes
This was the first NAC of the new fencing season.
It was to be a warm-up for the more important competitions in the months
to come until JOs. Andrey did not come to this event and our fencers
fought their way on their own. Bravo to all, in particular to our new
star athlete Kara and to Robert for their performances in the new (for
them) weapon. |
