2011 Alliance Annual Party

Houston, TX

September 18, 2011

Alliance celebrated the end of a great season and the start of a new on September 18th at The Next Door Bar and Lounge.  The restaurant opened early for the occasion and provided Alliance with a delicious brunch.  After brunch, the 120 attendees were treated to three different Russian cakes from Sweet Paradise Bakery.  With full and happy stomachs, parents and students sat back and enjoyed a slide show of pictures from the year and listened to Coach Andrey Geva give an overview of Alliance's 7th year.

Season 7 Highlights:

  • Alliance has grown to become the largest and strongest epee clubs in Texas with over 160 fencers.  The club reaches fencers at its clubs in Houston and The Woodlands, as well as, 4 private/public schools in the greater Houston area.

  • Alliance has grown not only in size but in reputation.  The club's youth and junior teams are 4 time U.S. National Champions.  Over the last 7 years Alliance has produced 21 U.S. Champions and North American Cup winners.

  • Alliance is making a splash in international fencing.  Seven Alliance fencers represented the U.S. and Great Britain national teams at the Pan American Games, World Cup and World Championship events last season.  Bringing home a total of 9 medals for the season.  Of special note, Anna VanBrummen (17) and Jack Hudson (17) took 5th and 10th places respectively at the Cadet/Junior World Championships in Jordon.  Making everyone at Alliance quite proud!

  • Alliance says "Thank You" and "Good Job" to its champions, national and international finalists, sponsors, and volunteers with over 40 awards and gifts.

  • Alliance says, "Thank You and Great Job!" to its outstanding international coaches’ cadre: Head Coach Andrey Geva (Russia/Israel),  Benoit Bouysset (France), Sabina Chernis (Kazakhstan), Sergey Danilov (Russia), and Suzette Wheeler (USA). A big "Thank You" goes out to our excellent assistant coaches as well: Lewis Weiss, Scott Wiley, and Bethlehem Witte.
