The 27th Annual Temple University Open

At the 27th annual Temple University Open on Sunday MIDN 2/C Joel Katz (25th Co.) battled his way to a 2nd place finish in an extremely competitive field of 74 epee fencers. In a competition billed as the largest collegiate fencing event held in the U.S., Katz used superior timing, speed, and accuracy to stun opponents from much larger varsity and club level teams, including Penn State, Maryland, North Carolina, and Florida. Katz faced fencers from perennial powerhouse PSU in the semifinal and final bouts, overcoming a 3 point deficit to defeat freshman Brian Heflich before falling to junior Dennis Kraft in the final.

The fencing club's next competition will be a series of Baltimore-Washington Conference Dual meets at St. Mary's College (St. Mary's City, MD) on November 12th.
