Italian Fencing Coach

to visit Alliance Fencing Academy

Roberta Ravasi, FIS National Instructor (Italian Fencing Federation) in three weapons will be our guest at Alliance Fencing Academy during the summer months.

Roberta received her NI certification from the Accademia Nazionale di Napoli (ANS) in 2009 and is preparing for her FIS Maestro di Scherma thesis and certification next year.

Prior to her NI certification, as Regional Instructor in three weapons she has been coaching since 2005 at Circolo della Spada Maestro Marcello Lodetti in the center of Milan, Italy, http://159.149.140.33/aipps/circolo%20della%20spada/index.html , working under Maestro Marcello Lodetti (a favorite student of the legendary Maestro Giuseppe Mangiarotti) and with his son, Dr. Giovanni Lodetti, FIS NI in three weapons and a sport psychologist. At her club Roberta coaches primarily épée and foil to all ages and levels. She is also certified by the Italian Paralympics Committee to coach handicap fencers.

Her Y-14 and under students have placed consistently in the top eight at the Italian Youths Grand Prix, the most important youths event of the Italian fencing season.

As an athlete, she fenced for Italy in senior world cup events until problems with her knee forced her to an early retirement from active competition. Before getting into fencing Roberta was the Wu Shu Kung Fu Italian Champion.

Roberta has an accounting degree and a doctorate in Italian literature and musicology. She plays the violin in an orchestra and teaches music appreciation to children 4-7.

Roberta has a passion for teaching and is very interested in fencing coaching pedagogy. She has published articles about music and fencing and is often a keynote speaker at fencing seminars organized by the FIS Continuous Education Program. She was a panelist and a speaker at the conference “Fencing: Psychology, Athletic Preparation, Rehabilitation, and Disability” held in Milan, May 8, 2010 (for the English text of the proceedings go to page 25 of this document http://www.maestridischerma.it/content/download/convengo_milano_2010.pdf).

We welcome the opportunity to have Roberta at our club!
