Alliance’s Record Breaking Winter Camp

December 26 – 30, 2005

The amazing 2005 Winter Camp at Alliance Fencing Academy seems destined for the record books.

There were about 60 fencers attending this year’s Winter Camp at Alliance.  Enough fencers participated, that the camp was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The Epee camp was held in the morning and the Foil/Saber camp was held in the afternoon. There were fencers from many different clubs both near and far.  All ages and skill levels were represented from earliest beginners all the way up to the highest competitive levels.  Four professional coaches were on hand to keep everyone motivated and things running smoothly.

The Epee camp, with an unbelievable 35 fencers, has to be one of the largest camps known.  The Foil program just started last year and already had 17 participate at camp.  The Saber program started a few short months ago and had 7 camp participants.

There were 7 “A” fencers, 5 ”B” fencers, 7 ”C” fencers, and many “D”, “E” and “U” fencers.  All levels learned new skills, made new friends and had a great time.

Younger fencers played many different games in addition to the foot work, blade work and electric fencing.  They had fun and it was a different way to learn new fencing skills.  Healthy snacks were provided to all the fencers.  Individual and team competitions were held for all the fencers.  A New Year’s Party was held on the last day of camp giving the morning and afternoon sessions a time to participate in a fun activity together.

Following the incredible success of Alliance’s Winter Camp, there are already other clubs ready to combine with Alliance for the Summer Camps.  This will make the camps bigger and will have an even higher level of coaches and fencers.
