FIE changes for foil
The FIE recently voted on some
fundamental changes to foil, to be tested in certain junior events next
season. The changes include:
tripling the time the tip must depress to set off a light;
cutting in half the window your opponent has to cause a second light
after your touch;
requiring foil tip springs to press back with 750 grams as opposed to
the current 500;
reducing the maximum curvature of the blade to 1 cm.
Saber lockout time
The FIE conference has voted 51-33 in favor of
reducing the the lockout time for saber. They further voted 50-32 to
reduce it to 120 milliseconds.
Falling
Accidental falls or slips go unpenalized.
However, a fencer can't score a touch while falling. In addition to
annulling the touch, the fencer gets a card.
Fencers who fall to avoid a touch or engage in improper or dangerous
fencing should be carded, as well.
