Barcelona Epee World Cup

March 7-8, 2014

Team:

Fencing in the third World Cup of the season, the U.S. Women’s Epee Team (comprised of: Courtney Hurley, Kelley Hurley, Amanda Sirico, and Natalie Vie) continued its trend of upsetting the top teams in the world in Barcelona, Spain. USA defeated the 2012 Olympic Team Champions, China, with the score of 43-36 to move into the top 4!

In the semifinal round Team USA lost to Hungary 38-35, then lost to Romania for the bronze medal in overtime by 1 point!!! Overall Team USA finished 4th place!

The result moves the U.S. Women’s Epee Team up to sixth in the world rankings.

Individual:

“Van Brummen defeated 2013 Senior World team silver medalist Yiwen Sun (CHN), 15-13, in the table of 64 and just missed the table of 16 after a 15-14 loss to 2013 Senior World Team Champion Tatyana Andryushina (RUS)!” (-USA Fencing) This Anna’s best result at a Senior Women’s Epee World Cup! Great job, Anna!!!
